Treatment Methods
Stem Injection
Each mature stem is individually injected with a herbicide chemical. The treatment allows a calculated amount of the chemical to be administrated to the Japanese Knotweed plant. The chemical can take up to 72hrs to get into the rhizome. Due to the strength of the plant a single treatment will not kill it. At least 3 treatments are required a year throughout its growing season over a 3 year recommended period. This process is the most cost effective way of treating Japanese Knotweed.
Herbicide Spraying
This treatment methodcan only be applied under certain conditions and is very much weather dependant. While stem injection allows a measured amount of the chemical to be applied to the plant, herbicide spraying is not as precise. Therefore the success of the treatment can be prolonged. One benefit of spraying is that it covers a large area of Japanese Knotweed easily, however, due to the nature of spraying other plants can be affected by the chemical.
“We were worried about the infestation in our garden – after several treatments we are so thrilled to have our outdoor space back”
